Now we are at the end of this year and everyone are getting prepared to welcome the “New Year 2015”. As there are many ups and downs occur in our life, but the wise person is the one who do not get excited by its up and not get depressed by its down. The year 2014 was very interesting, filled with some joy and sorrow for all of us. We are sharing some moments from the past year. Before entering to the new year lets have a look on the year 2014.

  • On 26th May 2014, Narendra Modi took the oath at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi and became the 15th Prime Minister of world’s largest democratic country, India.

  •  Many new campaigns have started to make India a better country. Such campaigns are 
MAKE IN INDIA: This campaign was started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The main objective behind this initiative is to attract businesses from all over the world to invest and manufacture in India.

 SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN: It is a national level campaign started by the Government of India. The campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat and became India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive in which 3 million people participated in the event.

Mars Orbitter Mission 

Nobody gets Mars right on the first attempt. The U.S. didn’t, the Europeans didn’t. But on September 24 India did. That’s when the Mangalyaan went into orbit around the Red Planet. The Mangalyaan was launched on 5 November 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is India’s 1st interplanetary mission.
Here are some facts about this mission:
1. India is the first country in the world to have succeeded in putting a probe into Mars orbit in the very first attempt and also the first Asian nation to do so.
2. The total cost of Mangalyaan Mission was USD $74 million and the recent Hollywood space adventure movie “Gravity” cost about a USD $100 million to make.
3. The total distance covered by Mangalyaan is 780 Million Km which costs ₹ 450 crore by making an average of ₹ 5.77 per km. This is cheaper than what many auto-rickshaws charge in the country.
4. N.A.S.A. took 5 years to complete its “Maven” Mars Orbiter. The I.S.R.O. took just 15 months to complete Mangalyaan.

  • On 13th of July, Germany won the 20th FIFA World Cup final and defeated Argentina by 1-0 in extra time.
                                                      The legend of cricket got retired.

NOBEL PRIZES

Shuji Nakamura, along with Hiroshi Amano and Isamu Akasaki were awarded the Nobel Prize in 2014 in Physics for the invention of Blue LED.
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize winner. She is known mainly for human rights advocacy for education of women.

 In hollywood Transformers: Age of Extinction is the highest grossing film all over world with a worldwide gross of USD $1.08 billion

TECHNOLOGY

Many new hot gadgets launched in this year like Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z3, HTC One M8, One Plus One, Xiaomi Mi3, Samsung Galaxy S5, Blackberry Passport, Moto G 2nd Gen and many more, but Apple iPhone 6 stole all the limelight and became the most popular gadget of 2014.

ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: This activity is to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. 

But the same year there were also some unfortunate changes and happenings like – riots in Saharanpur, Hud Hud, the killer cyclone that damaged Vishakhapatnam.

ISIS: This terror group dominated the headlines after a series of attacks against civilians, causing thousands to flee their homes. It is considered to be the most strongest terror group.

FLYTANIC

MH370 was a scheduled international passenger flight that disappeared on Saturday, 8 March 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, to Beijing Capital International Airport, China.
MH17 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that crashed on 17 July 2014, having been shot down.
On 28 December, An AirAsia Indonesia airliner flying from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board has gone missing.

EBOLA

The Ebola virus is a zoonotic disease known to be deadly to humans and primates. It spreads through direct contact with body fluids. The Ebola outbreak began in Guinea and spread to neighboring countries, with isolated cases in Spain and the US.

There are also some legendary personalities who passed away in this year like: Robin Williams, Shirley Temple, Harold Ramis, Joan Rivers, Maya Angelou, Zohra Sehgal, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Deven Verma, Ravi Chopra.
